Learn How To Start RBT Training

40-hour training bacb rbt exam registered behavior technician Jun 12, 2021

Before we discuss how to start RBT training, let us first discuss what is an RBT. A Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) is a paraprofessional who practices under the close, ongoing supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA). The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behaviour-analytic services. The RBT does not design intervention or assessment plans. It is the responsibility of the RBT supervisor to determine which tasks an RBT may perform as a function of his or her training, experience, and competence. The BCBA supervising the RBT is responsible for the work performed by the RBT on the cases they are overseeing.

The RBT training course is 100% online, with recorded videos so you learn at your own pace from any internet-connected device like a computer, tablet or smartphone.

The course is taught by Vivian Attanasio, a Licensed Behavior Analyst. Ms Attanasio has been in the field of special needs for over 20. In that time, she has served many roles such as school psychologist, case manager, clinical director, and consultant. She has designed ABA classrooms utilizing B.F. Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior across several counties of New Jersey. In addition, she has published research in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis on vocal production.

You must be 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. You will also be required to pass a criminal background check at some point. All course material including slides are included and are downloadable, so there is no need to purchase additional course-related material. The slides can be downloaded and printed. The cost is currently $99. We offer a discount for five or more users. We also offer a discount for parents of special needs children and veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

The BACB expects the 40-hour training course to be completed within 180 days or 6 months. If you complete the course before 180 days, you will still have access to the training library for reference.

Included with the training is a free RBT Exam Prep module. Use it to practice for the Board’s exam.  After completing the 40 hour RBT training you will receive a course completion certificate.  It will be sent to you via email in PDF format. You will need this certificate to get your competency assessment by a behavior analyst done before you can take the exam.

Here’s how the 3-step RBT credentialing process works:

First, you take the 40-hour training and receive a course completion certificate.

  1. Complete a Competency Assessment
  2. Have a criminal background check done.
  3. Finally, you’ll take and pass the RBT exam and receive your RBT credential. The Board uses Pearson VUE, a national testing centre to administer the exam. The Board charges $45 to take the exam.

Once you pass the BACB RBT Exam you will receive the Registered Behavior Technician credential and can work in the state of the USA and Canada under the ongoing supervision of a BCBA. For more information visit us online at www.onlinerbttraining.com for more information.
