Facts about 40 Hour Registered Behavior Training Course

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) created the Registered Behavior Technician® (RBT®) credential in 2013. The RBT is based on the principles of shaping human behavior through the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). There was a need for qualified trained paraprofessional staff to assist with the implementation of care plans created by a Board Certified Behavior Analysis (BCBA). RBTs do not create care plans for individuals, they work under the direct, on-going supervision of a BCBA. To qualify for an RBT credential a candidate must be at least 18 years of age and have at least a high school diploma or the equivalent. If those criteria are met, candidates must then take a 40-hour online, video-based training course with modules designed to prepare them to sit for an initial Competency Assessment.
